Driving the "Four-way"

Mia and I had this conversation driving home from work today:

Mia: Mom, are we on a Four-way?

Mom: What are you talking about?

Mia: Are we driving on a Four-way?

Mom: No, this is the "Freeway" honey.

Mia: Not three-way Mom. Four-way!

Mom: Yes, I know, but it's called a Freeway.

Mia: What? Are you kiddin' me? Look, one... two... three... four... Four lanes Mom. Geez... when did you learn to count?

Nibble Nibble little mouse. Who is nibbling on my "Manuscript?"

I feel like the witch in Hansel and Gretal, reeling in the Literary Agents with a piece of candy.

Writing a query letter is worse than writing a resume. It was harder than writing the book! My first very amateur attempt at a query letter crashed and burned like the zeppelin. I mean, how do you sum up three years of writing into a few paragraphs? After I got my rejection letter I reread what I had written and they were right, I wouldn't want to read it either.

So I worked around and around until I had something I liked. I needed an introverted look and I really had to spoil the entire plot to make it capturing.

But the worst part was talking about me. What would I say? I'm a Cancer, my favorite color is green, and if you don't look at my stuff, you're stupid. In the first one, it was something like, "I'm a mother of two beautiful girls. They are my sincere inspiration... married for twelve WONDERFUL years to the man of my dream... blah, blah, blah..." I really wanted to vomit. It wasn't me at all.

So this is what I wrote straight from the letter,"I was born and raised in Utah. I am the forth of six children, the oldest girl and unknowingly the cause of my mother's semi-mental breakdown. I love humor and wit, the smarter the better. I love laughing at lame movies and geeking out at nerdy shows, books, whatever is silly."

I got my first nibble. I think it was the "Geeking out" part. That or the "Mental Breakdown."

Wish me luck!

This is a drawing of Naomi's mark on her neck done by my friend and neighbor Beth Ipson. I'm going to send it in with the manuscript. I love it! Those who have read it will understand.

Sc"Hair"y tales!

I know news travels fast... but yes it is true, I cut my hair. I tried my best to get a good picture for everyone, but if I liked the hair cut more, maybe that would help.

I went in to the Salon with an idea that I wanted a change, but not 9 inches of change, just maybe a little shape from my boring straight. The lady, no offense to her, but she had the idea that I wanted a "Mommy-Do!" You need to know that is the last thing I wanted. But she cut and styled it for me. I was embarrassed to exit the mall. It just didn't look like me. She round-brushed it in and made my head look like a big football helmet. YIKES!!!

So, I am coping and getting used to it everyday. It really isn't that short and I don't think I look awful. I figure for this haircut to work I need to change my wardrobe, start having mommy play groups, shop at Gymborie and Baby Gap, wear taller heels, have streaks, actually care about my children's hair style, and wear a LOT more make-up.

That seems like too much, so this is what I've done so far...

Mia took the picture, pretty good for 5.

The "TERRIBLE" Towel!

It's Back up! ...and I wish I could tell you when it's coming down. I kinda was rooting for the Cardinals, only so I didn't need to see the Terrible Towel again. Would it be so bad if it didn't say, "Terrible Towel?" Yes...yes it would.
